Helen Moody specializes in communication strategies for scientists and engineers. Her company provides communication consulting and training to a distinguished clientele that includes national laboratories and institutes, electronics manufacturers, medical equipment manufacturers, biotechnology laboratories, and universities. Helen is the author of the Writing by Design™ training series, which includes Scientific and Technical Reports, Instruction Documents, and Business Documents. She is also the author of PowerEditing™: Rapid Revision for Busy Writers, to be published October 2007. As a consultant, she prepares strategic communication plans to help organizations align their documents and practices with their missions and goals. To improve interpersonal communication, Helen and her associates lead organizations through training in team-work skills. One of her consultations involved the University of New Mexico, where she helped the Education Department design its Organizational Learning and Instructional Technologies program. She has addressed regional, national, and international conferences. Her audiences have included the American Society for Training and Development, the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), the American Society of Safety Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the Society for Technical Communication. Before founding her company, Helen taught at San Jose State University and at the University of California, Berkeley. She earned her doctorate, in English, at UC Berkeley. Past President of the New Mexico Chapter of ISPI, she also designed and maintained its award-winning Web site. Other professional affiliations include the Medieval Academy of America. A senior member of STC, Helen is delighted to serve on the board of the New Mexico Kachina chapter.
