Carmelita Wasson

Carmelita Wasson recently graduated with honors from New Mexico Tech (NMT) with a Bachelor of Science in Technical Communication with a minor in Biology. While at New Mexico Tech, she was actively involved in the STC Trinitite Chapter, NMT’s student chapter. Carmelita served one year as chapter secretary and two years as chapter president. She recently joined the STC Kachina Chapter and is now serving as the Kachina Chapter’s Vice President of Public Relations.

As an undergraduate, Carmelita completed several internships as a technical writer at NMT’s Institute for Complex Additive Systems Analysis (ICASA) in Socorro, NM; as a congressional intern at the Office of Congressman Steve Pearce in Washington, DC; and as a technical writer intern at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in Albuquerque, NM. During her internships, Carmelita learned many aspects of technical communication including web design, editing technical papers, collaborative writing, and document design.

Upon graduating in May, 2007, Carmelita took her first full-time position at SAIC as a technical communicator and outreach manager for the Directed Energy Test and Evaluation Capability (DETEC) program. Her daily work includes overseeing the program’s outreach activities and helping develop, edit, and maintain documentation for DETEC’s projects.
