I speak regularly at the STC annual conference, and in chapter meetings around the country. I have given workshops about online help, XML, web writing, and organizing content for online delivery, at the annual conference, and around the country for local chapters. In 1995 I put together the program for the Southwest Regional, here in Albuquerque, on the theme "Recycling Information." I have been a judge for the online entries in our annual competition. My book, Virtual Playhouse for the Macintosh, won an award of Excellence in the International Competition, 1995. I have taught technical writing at New Mexico Tech and UNM, as well as Bentley College, Stanford, UC Santa Cruz and Berkeley, through extension programs. I have written two books about tech writing: How to Write a Computer Manual, and How to Communicate Technical Information (Benjamin-Cummings, a division of Addison-Wesley), and with my wife Lisa, Hot Text: Web Writing that Works. I have edited special issues of Technical Communication, and Transactions in Professional Writing. My journalism has appeared in Art News, Esquire, Harper’s, and Reader’s Digest.
