CompetitionsWinners Announced in 2007 Southwest Regional PAO Competitions At its awards luncheon on January 19, 2008, the New Mexico Kachina chapter announced winners in the 2007 Southwest Regional Publications, Art, and Online (PAO) Competitions. Top awards in the the competitions went to two teams from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). In the Technical Publications Competition, Livermore won both Distinguished Technical Communication (DTC) and Best of Show awards for its book LLNL and UC Making History. In the Technical Art Competition, Los Alamos won both DTC and Best of Show awards for its Bradbury Science Museum History Wall exhibit. Five other entries also won DTC awards. In the Art Competition, the LANL Energy Programs poster and Nutrition Poster Series from Los Alamos won DTC awards. In the Publications Competition, three entries received DTC awards: 1663, LANL Science and Technology Magazine; Science and Technology Review ’07 from Lawrence Livermore; and the LANSCE 2005 Activity Report from Los Alamos. All seven DTC-award-winning entries have been submitted to the STC’s international competitions; international winners will be announced at the Society’s annual conference in June. Two other levels of awards are given in STC competitions: Award of Excellence and Award of Merit. Sixteen entries received Excellence awards and 27 received Merit awards. For a full list of award winners, see 2007 Southwest Regional PAO Competitions Award Winners. The sixth annual Southwest Regional PAO Competitions were sponsored by the New Mexico Kachina chapter, with support from the Phoenix, Southern Arizona, and Oklahoma chapters. For this year’s competitions, 14 teams of judges evaluated 60 entries: three teams from Phoenix, two from Southern Arizona, two from Oklahoma, and seven from Kachina. Entries were submitted by technical communicators in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Colorado. Each fall, STC
chapters across the country and in Canada, Europe, and Australia sponsor
local and regional PAO competitions to recognize excellence in technical
communication. Winning an award is peer recognition of having produced
effective communication products. Congratulations to all winners in this
year’s Southwest Regional PAO Competitions! |
